The Dark Knight Slot Review

Are you ready for a superhero adventure? The Dark Knight is a 6-reel video slot with 50 win-both-ways paylines. Here, protector of Gotham City, Batman, battles his long-term enemy, the Joker.

Playtech has a licensing agreement with DC Comics, so this is the official game of the popular movie. It definitely lives up to expectations, too. Players can be thrilled and entertained with respins, expanding wilds, three free spins bonus rounds and the chance of winning one of four progressive jackpots.

How to play

The Dark Knight slot is a Playtech One creation which means it’s compatible with all devices. Whichever platform you use, the gameplay is straightforward. Here’s a brief guide to help new players get started.

  1. Choose a casino
Not every casino in Canada has this game, so check out the approved Dark Knight sites on our list.
  2. Check the paytable and features
Before you spin the reels, click on the “i” button. This reveals the paytable. It also explains the various features and the layout of the 50 paylines.
  3. Set the cost per spin
The number of paylines is fixed, but you can still adjust the total bet per spin. Use the positive and negative icons to find the bet limit you want.
  4. Hit spin
Batman’s call sign with circular arrows is the spin button. There’s also an auto-play feature which you can set for 5 to 99 spins.

Gameplay, RTP and Variance

The Dark Knight has three low-value symbols. They are the playing cards Q, K and A. Following those, Jim Gordon, Two-Face, Rachel Dawes and Bruce Wayne are of medium value, with the latter offering 250x your line bet if you match six symbols on a payline.

However, the Dark Knight slot is all about Batman and the Joker. These two symbols offer the most value in the base game. Six Batman symbols on a payline pays 1500x. Also, there’s a Batman Wild which can appear on reels 2-5, and it substitutes all other symbols except the Batman bonus and Joker bonus, which activate the free games features.

For a progressive jackpot slot, the Dark Knight’s RTP of 95.96% is generous. Additionally, the variance is around medium. Players will experience regular wins, but most tend to payout less than the cost per spin. However, the big wins and bonuses will come eventually.

Bonus Features

If you like your slots with an abundance of features, The Dark Knight is for you. It has action in the base game, bonus rounds and the progressive jackpot game. Let’s take a closer look at each feature.

Batman Respins

In the base game, when Batman appears stacked on the leftmost reel, you trigger the Batman Respins feature. All Batman and Batman Wild symbols lock in place. A coin is tossed. One side has Batman, the other is the Joker. If the coin lands on Batman, you get another respin, with a maximum of eight respins allowed.

The Joker Respins

This is essentially the same as Batman Respins. When the Joker is stacked on the rightmost reel, the respins feature is activated, with all Joker and Batman Wild Symbols locking in place. Once more, a coin is tossed, but you need the Joker side to continue the respins. If the coin lands on Batman, the feature ends.

The Dark Knight Free Games

Land the Batman bonus symbol on reels 2 and 3, and you receive 7 free games with all Batman symbols turning to wilds and locking on the reels. Unfortunately, the free games cannot be retriggered.

Agent of Chaos Free Games

This feature is activated when two Joker bonus symbols appear on reels 4 and 5. During the 7 free spins, extra-large Joker symbols can appear on the reels to deliver some massive wins. Like the Dark Knight free spins, these cannot be retriggered either.

Gotham City Free Games

You can get another 7 free games by landing two Batman bonus symbols (reels 2 and 3) and two Joker bonus symbols (reels 4 and 5) on the reel set. The Batman symbols are locked wilds, and extra-large Jokers are in play. When an extra-large Joker overlaps a wild Batman, the Joker becomes wild and it unlocks the Batman. Also, combinations including the bonus symbols and Joker pay as Batman if the win is higher.

DC Super Heroes Jackpot

The Dark Knight slot is linked to the DC Super Heroes Jackpot network. This is randomly triggered after any spin of any value. When the jackpot game is activated, players are guaranteed to win one of the four progressives.

On the jackpot game screen, there are 20 jackpot icons. Clicking on an icon reveals its colour, which corresponds to one of the progressives.

  • Mini: Green
  • Minor: Blue
  • Major: Yellow
  • Grand: Red

The coloured symbols are added to the collection area. The first collection area to completely fill is the jackpot you win.

Mobile casino players will be pleased to know that The Dark Knight slot is available on tablets, iPads and phones. Despite the smaller screen, nothing is lost in terms of gameplay or performance.

Design, Sound and Graphics

A war-torn Gotham City forms the background for this game, but the imposing 6 by 4 reel set dominates the majority of the screen, with the eye-catching progressive jackpot totals ticking higher above the reels.

The soundtrack is full of suspense. It reminds us of the film as our hero Batman prepares for the final battle. From a visual perspective, The Dark Knight also hits the right notes. The character symbols, in particular, are high quality, which sets the tone for the game.

Playtech has done an amazing job bringing The Dark Knight to life in a slot machine. The plethora of bonus features will keep you on the edge of your seat with every spin, and that’s without considering the mighty DC Comics linked jackpots, which often top $1 million for the Grand Progressive.
